Turkey Picadillo

Low Fat Recipe

Turkey Picadillo is a sweet (from raisins) and spicy Mexican dish traditionally made with ground beef. This recipe uses lean ground turkey and black beans; you can substitute pinto or kidney beans, if you wish. You can also add chili-style stewed tomatoes over plain canned - they add extra flavor without extra work.

Turkey Picadillo


2 garlic cloves
1 small onion
2 teaspoons olive oil
2 teaspoons chili powder
3 tablespoons raisins
8 ounces ground turkey breast
1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained
1 can (15 ounces) chili style stewed tomatoes
Hot sauce for garnish, if desired

Recipe Directions

Crush the garlic through a press. Coarsely chop the onion and bell pepper.

In a large nonstick skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic cloves, the chopped onion and bell pepper, and the chili powder and cook, stirring, 4 minutes or until softened. Add the raisins and cook for 1 minute, stirring. Add the turkey, and cook, breaking it up with a fork, for 5 minutes.

Add the beans and tomatoes and simmer 5 minutes.

Serve in bowls with extra hot sauce.
