These nut candy recipes take nuts as a base and sweeten them to sweet candy goodness with ingredients like carob and honey.
Chopped walnuts mixed with grated coconut, carob powder, honey and sesame seeds make a delightful Walnut Candy. Lots of healthful ingredients in these! The majority of fat in walnuts is the "healthy" polyunsaturated fat; plus, they were the first whole food to receive a health claim from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
1 cup ground or finely chopped walnuts
1 cup grated coconut
1/2 cup organic raw carob powder
1/2 cup honey
Mix walnuts, coconut, carob powder and honey together. Form into small balls.
Roll Walnut Candy in sesame seeds.
Cinnamon Walnut Turtles
Cinnamon Walnut Turtles are a tasty and healthful treat from mother nature. Various spices and nuts can be substituted. Can add coconut and dried fruits.
2 cups walnuts
1 cup raw honey
1/2 cup cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
In a large bowl, mix honey, cinnamon and vanilla into paste. Stir in walnuts until thoughly coated. Form into small clusters and dehydrate at least 24 hours.
Drying removes the moisture from the food so bacteria, yeast and mold cannot grow and spoil the food. Drying also slows down the action of enzymes (naturally occurring substances which cause foods to ripen), but does not inactivate them.
Four Ways To Dehydrate Food
- Using a food dehydrator.
- In an oven.
- By the sun itself.
- Or with the use of a solar dehydrating unit.
Apple Nut Candy
Apple Nut Candy is packed with healthy ingredients! Chopped nuts, grated apple, coconut, rice polishings, sunflower seed meal, apple concentrate and honey to sweeten & bind.
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1/4 cup grated apple
1/4 cup fresh grated coconut
1/4 cup ground nuts
1/4 cup rice polish *
1/4 cup sunflower seed meal
2 teaspoons apple concentrate
Honey to bind
*Rice polish is the outer portions of the rice kernel produced by the process used in producing polished white rice. Polishing rice removes the germ and the yellowish-brown outer layers (which contain the bran). They are a source of thiamin, riboflavin and niacin. Also called tikitiki. If you cannot find rice polishings specifically, you can use All Natural Rice Bran.
Mix all ingredients together to a stiff consistency.
Roll Apple Nut Candy mixture into balls and then roll in sesame seeds to coat. Store candies in tightly covered container.
