What is Detox?

Detox basically means ridding your body of toxins for health purposes. A toxin is:

Many toxins are ingested through the foods we eat on a daily basis. Did you know that we are exposed to more toxins by activities as seemingly harmless as taking our daily shower?

For example, the water exposes us to chlorine and other contaminants. Body soap exposes us to artificial coloring, fragrance, sudsing agents etc. Creams and lotions are full of synthetic chemicals (the skin is the largest detoxification organ). Deodorant contains aluminum among other toxic substances. Perfumes and after shaves contain harmful ingredients we absorb through our hair and skin all day long. Now you’re all ready to meet your day so you grab a bowl of whole grain cereal because this is a healthy breakfast. BUT – even that healthy cereal contains preservatives. That glass of orange juice you had with your breakfast? Contains residues of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and fertilizers. The same with that apple you grab for a snack.

But do take heart. While this can all sound daunting and hopeless, the good news is that God has created our bodies with mechanisms to prevent an overflow of toxins.
