Independence Day Flag Treats
These crunchy, sweet treats are a snap to prepare--and fun to snack on while you're watching the July Fourth fireworks display.
Ingredients:
6 large graham crackers
1 tablespoon plus 1-teaspoon powdered egg white
4 cups confectioners' sugar
Red and blue food coloring
6 pretzel rods
Directions:
Halve each graham cracker to make two squares.
For the frosting, in a medium bowl, using a mixer set on medium, combine the powdered egg white and 1/4-cup warm water. Add the confectioners' sugar. Tint 1/3 of the frosting red and 1/3 blue; leave 1/3 white.
Scoop frostings into three separate resealable plastic bags. Snip off one corner of each bag. Frost the upper left-hand corner of each cracker with blue frosting. Use red and white frosting to make alternating stripes and then stars on the crackers to create flags. Break each pretzel rod in half; use more icing to attach them to flags. Let icing set completely.
Recipe makes 12 to 16 cookies.
Tips:
* Reduce prep time even more by using packaged decorator icings to adorn these flags.
* You can easily substitute any square cookie for the graham crackers in this recipe.
