Gingerbread Cut-Outs

Merry Christmas Blinkie


Ingredients:
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup dark corn syrup
1 teaspoon each: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger
Two eggs, beaten
1 teaspoon vinegar
5 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
Red hot candies, or other decoration for buttons and eyes

Directions:
In a large saucepan, combine the butter, sugar, corn syrup and spices; bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and cool to lukewarm. Stir in eggs and vinegar. Combine flour and baking soda, stir into sugar mixture to form a soft dough. Chill for several hours. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with gingerbread man cookie cutter. Place on lightly greased or non-stick cookie sheets. Use red hots or other decoration for eyes and buttons. Bake at 350-degrees for eight to ten minutes, taking care not to burn. Remove to wire racks to cool.
