Low Carbohydrate Recipe

We offer two variations of a healthful Hot Flax Cereal, both using flax meal and spiced with cinnamon. The variation adds the health boost of oat bran.

Flax Meal for Hot Flax Cereal

Hot Flax Cereal I

2 tablespoons oat bran
2 tablespoons flax meal
2/3 cup water
1 packet Splenda
Dash cinnamon
1 teaspoon maple extract

Stir all ingredients together and microwave for 2 minutes. Add a splash of cream, if desired.

Nutrition Information

Servings: 1 serving
TOTAL Carbohydrates: >13 (net 8 carbs)

Variation: Hot Flax Cereal II

1/4 cup flax meal
1/4 cup light cream
1/3 cup water
1 packet splenda
Cinnamon

Mix all ingredients and microwave for 2 minutes. Serves 1 at 13 carbs each (net 6 carbs).

Bonus: Hot Maple Bran Cereal

1/4 cup wheat bran
1 teaspoon guar gum (thickener)
1 cup boiling water
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 packets Splenda
Butter
Pure maple extract (not imitation)

Mix wheat bran and guar gum in heat resistant bowl. Stir in 1 cup boiling water. Mix until even textured (no lumps). Add salt, splenda, and maple flavoring. Can add a few pats of butter, if desired. Serves 1 at 9 carbs each (3 NET carbs).
