Oatmeal Raisin Bars

Low Fat Recipe - Fight the Fat!

Brimming with healthful rolled oats while egg whites and apple butter or applesauce cut out the fat in these nutrient packed, fruit-sweet bars.

Recipe Ingredients

3/4 cup packed brown sugar
4 tablespoons butter, softened
2 egg whites
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup apple butter or applesauce
2 tablespoons skim milk
1-1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3 cups rolled oats, quick or old-fashioned, uncooked

Recipe Directions

Rolled oats

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Beat together sugars and margarine until blended. Add apple butter, egg whites, milk, and vanilla; beat well.

Add combined flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt and mix well. Stir in oats and raisins and mix well. Spread dough in greased 13-by-9-inch baking pan. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until light brown. Cool before cutting into bars.
