Over the past several decades, scientific researchers have discovered that most foods contain hundreds of chemical compounds that have specific effects on us - and some of those effects are sexually enhancing.

But these foods are not to be confused with those that are considered aphrodisiacs. These foods are more likely to fine-tune your sexual functions by reducing cholesterol buildup, enhancing blood flow, stimulating the release of feel-good brain chemicals, giving penis cells the chemical energy they need, etc.

A great factor in eating the right foods for sex is that there are no odd or exotic foods that you'll be required to hunt down. Some of the best foods for sex are among the most familiar:

  • carrots
  • oranges
  • chocolate
  • hot peppers
  • steak

Consider carrots because of their vibrant orange color. That orange color means carrots are packed with beta-carotene, which reduces the accumulation of that nasty "bad" LDL cholesterol. By accomplishing this in the male body, it becomes easier for a man to get and sustain an erection.

Obviously, different foods supply different nutrients so the first rule of good nutrition for good sexual health is to eat a wide variety of foods. Some foods are better than others for sexual stimulation and health so we'll cover the most commonly eaten and most powerful. Many of them are plants foods, while others are the those delicious favorites you love to cook on the grill and/or dish up with a spoon.

  1. Asparagus spears. Loaded with potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and vitamin E, asparagus spears are essential for producing energy and maintaining urinary health. Asparagus also helps your body produce testosterone and other sex hormones.
  2. Hot chilies. The ingredient in hot chilies called capsaicin is a chemical compound that causes your taste buds to inform your brain that you're "hot". This in turn causes the heart to race and the skin to flush. When this happens, it means your blood is flowing freely. When your blood flows freely, that means to your penis, as well and that in turn, means power for your erections.
  3. Oatmeal. Oats contain a variety of compounds that aid blood circulation and prevent cholesterol buildup. Oats can also help reduce anxiety. They're also high in fiber, which maintains that blood-flow to your penis.
  4. Eggs. Eggs are packed with B vitamins, nutrients that help reduce anxiety and help keep your libido high.
  5. Peanuts. Roasted or plain, peanuts are rich in arginine, an amino acid that dilates blood vessels and promotes stronger erections.
  6. Chocolate. Chocolate, known in many circles as the "love food" for a reason. Cocoa contains stimulants that increase skin sensitivity; chocolate also offers compounds chemically similar to the euphoria-inducing hormone your body produces when you're in love.
  7. Seafood i.e. caviar, oysters, lobster, etc. Seafood is loaded with zinc, a mineral that increases the production of testosterone and promotes male fertility and good prostate health.
  8. Fruit. Fresh or frozen, all fruits are high in vitamin C. Citrus fruits (oranges, grapefruit) are among the highest in this important vitamin. University of Texas researchers report that men who ingest at least 200 milligrams of vitamin C each day boast higher sperm counts than those who consume less. Vitamin C also keeps your sperm from a condition called "clumping", which causes reproductive problems. Apples contain phenylalanine, an amino acid that increases the production of endorphins, brain chemicals that fuel sexual arousal.
  9. Celery. Celery contains androsterone, a powerful male hormone that acts like pheromones, a scent molecule that taps into the most primitive part of a woman's brain, attracting her without her even being aware.
  10. Low Fat Ice Cream and/or Milk. Ice cream and milk are high in calcium and phosphorus, minerals that build muscular energy reserves and boost libido. A healthy level of calcium can also make orgasms more powerful because the muscles that control ejaculation need calcium to contract properly.
  11. Blueberries. The abuncance of soluble fiber in bluberries helps remove excess cholesterol from the blood before it is deposited in the arterial walls. Blueberries also relax blood vessels and improve blood flow. The more blood able to freely flow into the penis, the stronger your erections.
  12. Liver. Liver is among the best sources of fertility-boosting vitamin A. A man who gets plenty of A every day has a higher sperm count (and can perform better sexually) than men who don't.
  13. Steak. The protein in steak gives you a natural boost of dopamine and norepinephrine, two brain chemicals that heighten sensitivity during sex. Steak also contains a lof of zinc, which boosts libido by reducing production of the hormone prolactin, which can retard arousal.

A Dietary Side Note
Keep your cholesterol under control. HDL cholesterol helps rid you of the bad LDL cholesterol. If you don't have enough HDL cholesterol, even low amounts of LDL can form blockages that could reduce your ability for an erection. The higher your HDL count, the better.

Go get 'em.
