Microwave Boston Brown Bread

Whole Grain Recipe

Whole wheat flour, cornmeal and rye flour make up your grains while buttermilk makes this bread tender. Molasses and raisins add sweet flavor.

Microwave your next Boston Brown Bread

Recipe Ingredients

1-1/4 cups whole wheat flour
1-1/4 cups corn meal
1-1/4 cups rye flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2-1/2 cups buttermilk
1 cup dark molasses
1 cup raisins

Recipe Directions

Sift together the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add the buttermilk, molasses and raisins. Mix by hand until well blended.

Divide the mixture into 2 parts. Place each in a waxed paper lined baking dish that are 10 x 6 x 1-3/4. Cover each with a plastic wrap.

Microwave one loaf at a time on medium (50 percent power) for 22 to 24 minutes. Turn dish a half turn halfway through cooking. Remove plastic wrap.

Place on a solid surface for about 10 minutes before removing from baking dish.
