Cooking Squash

Squash

  • To cook butternut squash, cut it in half, remove the seeds, peel it, and cut into cubes. Toss the cubes of squash with melted butter or olive oil and bake, covered, at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
  • Uncover the squash and stir the cubes to make sure they cook on all sides. Bake squash an additional 10 to 20 minutes, until the squash is tender.
  • To cook acorn squash, bake it halved and seeded, cut side down, at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Turn the squash over and brush it with melted butter and top the squash with either honey, maple syrup, or brown sugar. Bake squash an additional 15 minutes, until tender.
  • To cook spaghetti squash, pierce the outer skin three to four times with a thin knife. Place squash on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes for a medium squash. Cut the cooked squash in half, remove the seeds, and use a fork to pull the squash into strands that resemble spaghetti. Serve the squash with your favorite pasta sauce.
