Next time you discover your package of bagels have reached (or are a few days past) their expiration date, don't fret; homemade bagel chips with them! It's super simple and they make a great crunch-n-munch snack any time of the day.

  • Make your own bagel chips by cutting bagels into 1/8 inch slices, placing them in a single layer on a baking sheet, and toasting in a 350 degree oven for 5 to 8 minutes on a side, or until golden brown and crispy. Do check them often however, because we don't want your bagel chips to burn. You'll know when your bagel chips are done as they will be golden-brown and crispy and the most delicious scents will be wafting throughtout your home!
  • Add Flavor: If desired, the bagel slices can be bushed lightly with olive oil and sprinkled with salt, herbs, sesame seeds or other topping of your choice before baking. You can experiment and make your bagels a different flavor any time - or make up a bunch with various flavors! Examples: Cayenne pepper and chili powder if you prefer a spicy kick. Or how about cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg - or a combination of at least two of them - for a sweet treat? Making your bagel chips this way tastes great when you use raisin bagels).
