Apricot Squares for Easter


Ingredients:
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
One egg, well beaten
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1-1/2 cup flour
1-1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Pinch cloves
2 tablespoons milk
3/4 cup apricot preserves

Directions:
Cream shortening. Add sugar, cream until fluffy. Add egg and lemon juice, blend well.

Sift together dry ingredients, add, alternately, with milk.

Spread half the batter into greased 9"x9" pan. Cover with apricot preserves. Top with remaining half of the batter.
