Not only is this cabbage dish delicious, it's low in fat, sugar and salt! Another bonus: It is quick and easy to prepare!

Caraway seed is popular in north European cooking to flavor breads, cakes, sauerkraut, stews, cabbage, cheeses, and cooked fruits.

Caraway Red Cabbage

Recipe Ingredients

1/2 cup chopped onion
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup water
4 teaspoons white vinegar
3/4 teaspoon caraway seeds
1/2 teaspoon salt
9 cups shredded red cabbage
4 teaspoons sugar substitute

Recipe Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large saucepan, saute onion in butter until tender. Add water, vinegar, caraway seeds, salt and cabbage. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in sugar substitute.

Recipe Note

You can use stick margarine in place of the butter, if preferred.
