Maple Walnut Bars Recipe

Maple Walnut Bars use brown sugar replacement to sweeten up these tasty bars. Pure maple syrup gives them their maple-flavor. Walnuts add a nice crunch but are optional.

Maple Syrup for Maple Walnut Bars

Recipe Ingredients

1-1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup brown sugar replacement
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup pure maple syrup
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2 tablespoons flour
Dash salt
1/3 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Recipe Directions

In a mixing bowl, combine 1-1/2-cup flour, brown sugar replacement. Cut margarine in until mixture resembles crumbs. Press crumbs into the bottom, of a greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Bake at 350-degrees for 15 minutes.

Heat maple syrup until warm. Set aside.

In a mixing bowl, beat eggs. Slowly pour in the warm maple syrup, stirring constantly. Add 2-tablespoons flour, vanilla and salt; blend thoroughly. Pour over the baked crust. Sprinkle with walnuts. Return to oven and bake 15 to 20 minutes longer. Allow to cool in the pan.

Recipe Note

You can use sugar free maple syrup if desired, but the pure maple syrup is much healthier. However, if sugar is a very serious concern, do go with sugar free.
