Warm Ginger Cola
At the first sign of sniffles, the Chinese order this beverage, one of several health drinks developed and served in the local teahouses. Sweet and warm, the syrupy liquid soothes the throat and the hot bite of ginger followed by the tang of lemon is refreshing. Warm cola is an unusual ingredient, but the sugar balances the ginger and lemon.
Ingredients:
1 can (12 ounces) cola
4 (1/4-inch) slices fresh ginger
1 to 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
4 thin slices lemon
Directions:
Place cola, ginger and brown sugar in small saucepan.
Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil gently ten minutes.
Pour into cup; add lemon slices. Serve immediately.
Recipe makes one soothing serving.
