If you truly desire to look and feel more healthy and crave the energy to live a more fully engaged day-to-day life, the best place to start is with what you're eating.
Eating a balanced diet is critical to living a healthy lifestyle. But within the framework of a sound diet, there are some foods that are better than others. In many of us, the mere mention of such foods as oatmeal, broccoli or soy, gives us a "turn off" response.
Today, however, many of these wholesome, healthy foods are being marketed in forms that taste great and are easy to prepare. Dare to pick one and try it! In fact, you could make it a goal to try one healthier food item per week - you're sure to find some you'll want to stick with.
For example, pasta manufacturers are making whole wheat and omega-3 fortfied pastas. Give one a try next time you whip up some spaghetti, or in your soup, etc. Instead of a piece of fruit pie for dessert, just have fruit. Dole makes a great new fruit bowl that includes an oat toppping that gives it a nice crunch. Warm one up and put a dollop of reduced fat whipped topping on it. Nummy!
In the summer, if you're craving ice cream, give fruit sherbets a try. The flavors available are almost endless; surely you should be able to find one you just might enjoy.
Be creative and look around the grocery shelves when you're purchasing the items you usually purchase to see if there's a healthier variation you can try.
