Calcium May Help Keep Weight Down
Timeless Health Tip
Calcium is one of the most vital nutrients we all need for optimum health. Now research suggests it may also help you lose weight.
Just two servings of milk or yogurt a day may help you keep your weight under control, says new research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
The Canadian study of almost 500 men and women found that those who consumed at least 600 milligrams of calcium a day were far less likely to be obese, whereas those who consumed less calcium than that were more likely to have a higher percentage of body fat.
While the researchers are not sure why calcium is associated with a lower percentage of body fat, they think it may play a role in suppressing appetite.
You can try antacid/indigestion tablets to get your calcium and assist in suppressing your appetite, too. The tablets deposit a layer of chlorine and calcium on the tongue. This can lead to loss of appetite.
Calcium for Colon Cancer?
While milk is busy protecting your bones, it is also protecting you from colon cancer, too. A study of 135,000 people found that just 700mg of calcium a day, from food or supplements, cut the risk for cancer in the last portion of the colon by 40 to 50 percent (Journal of the National Cancer Institute). Experts believe that the bile and fatty acids inside your colon can trigger abnormal cell growth, the first step to cancer. Calcium seems to lock on to these toxin chemicals and render them harmless, allowing you to safely "eliminate" them.

The acidity of pickles will accelerate the absorption of calcium.
