Olive Oil and Disease
People who use olive oil regularily, especially in place of other fats, have lower rates of heart disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer and asthma. The evidence points out that olive oil should be your first choice of added fat in your diet. Scientists have been studying the health-protective benefits of the Mediterranean diet for decades, discovering that one major factor in this healthful diet is the generous use of olive oil. Nutrition Tip
Low calorie or delicious? Health or pleasure?
When it comes to food, it doesn't have to be one or the other. Don't adopt a drastic style of eating just for the sake of health. Eat foods because they taste good and add enjoyment and zest to your life. Here are five tips to help you achieve it:
- Dine with others. As much as possible, share meals and pleasant conversation with others. Pay attention to food when it's time to eat and forget about it between meals.
- Arrange your world so you eat less. Use smaller plates and portion foods in the kitchen, instead of bringing food laden bowls and platters to the table.
- Taste and savor. Eat slowly. Make meals last at least 20 minutes.
- Create rich food experiences. Try new foods and order different meals at restaurants. Experience the food when it's in front of you, instead of anticipating its taste or trying to recreate past food pleasures.
- Enjoy the foods you love. You won't be happy otherwise. Learn to be satisfied with less by splitting must-have favorites with a companion.
