Fitness Tip

Fitness: Key to Living Longer
Researchers from the University of South Carolina, when they followed 2,603 men and women for 12 years tracking fitness and the number of deaths, found that those who are physically active do live longer. The researchers evaluated fitness by a treadmill exercise test, while body fat was determined by body mass index, waist measurements and percent body fat measures. In most cases, death rates for those with better fitness were less than half that of those who were considered unfit. Even those who were obese, but fit, had lower death rates than did those who were lean, but unfit. These findings dramatically highlight that getting and staying fit is a prerequisite for good health, regardless of weight.

Nutrition Tip

Cereal: The Ideal Breakfast
Cereals are quick, nutritious, convenient and wonderfully nutritious. Besides adding life to your years, cereals might also add years to your life. Researchers from the Georgia Centenarian Study discovered that people who reach triple digits, 100, consume breakfast more regularly than people who skip the most important meal of the day. With so many high-quality cereals to choose from, there's simply no reason to settle for second best. So follow the "rule of five". Cereals that have at least five grams of fiber per serving are good choices, so set a 5-gram minimum. See also: The History of Cereal, Healthy, Heart-Warming Cereal or take the Cereal Quiz!.

Hamlin Oranges: Medium-sized, pale yellow and green to light orange, seedless and has a thin peel.

Tidbit(s)

After-Meal Rituals
Chew on a piece of sugar-free gum, brush your teeth, or sip a hot beverage such as tea or sugar-free cocoa after a meal. These rituals can work as cues to stop eating and should help curb the impulse to indulge in seconds or dessert.

Food Fixes

Cut some fat and add some flavor! When reducing the fat content in a recipe, add more flavor boosters like herbs, mustards or extracts.

For easy removal of gelatin salads from mold, moisten the interior of the mold with cold water, rub vegetable oil inside or coat with nonstick cooking spray before filling.

Tasty Tidbit...
