New: Caralluma Fimbriata..Say what?
Caralluma fimbriata is a new arrival in the family of cactii and succulent plants that are becoming increasingly popular for their appetite suppressant ability and weight loss properties, as well as their ability to lower blood sugar. For centuries, people in rural areas of India have eaten Caralluma fimbriata, which grows wild over various parts of the country. Caralluma fimbriata is cooked as a vegetable, used in preserves like chutneys and pickles, or eaten raw. Caralluma fimbriata is believed to help with fat loss due to its ability to block the activity of several enzymes, which then blocks the formation of fat, forcing fat reserves to be burned. Caralluma fimbriata is also believed to have an effect on the appetite control mechanism of the brain. Ayurvedic (traditional Indian medicine) experts have noted that there are no adverse effects when using Caralluma fimbriata, and the plant has no known toxicity.

Nutrition Tip

Fight Cholesterol with Cinnamon
Sprinkle cinnamon on your morning coffee or toast, or oatmeal. A half-teaspoon of cinnamon each day could cut your triglycerides and total cholesterol by 12 to 30 percent while it boosts your body's ability to store blood sugar, reports the USDA's Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center in Maryland.

Quip or Quote of the Week

Quip
Regreening occurs in oranges that grow in warmer nighttime temperatures, returning the fruit's natural chlorophyll (which gives it a greenish tint). Inside, they are still bright orange, juicy and full of vitamin C.

Quick Recipe

Oven-Toasted Deli Sandwich
Take 1/4 cup Miracle Whip dressing, and eight slices of bread. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Spread one side of each piece of bread with the Miracle Whip. Place four of the bread slices on greased baking sheet, dressing-side down. (Dressing on the outside browns the outer crust). Spread bread slices on baking sheet with flavorings (such as salsa, BBQ sauce, mustard, Italian dressing). Top with your favorite deli meat, vegetables and cheese; cover with remaining four bread slices, dressing side up. Bake six minutes or until golden brown; turn over. Bake an additional six to seven minutes or until sandwiches are golden brown on both sides. Makes four servings.
Meat suggestions: shaved turkey breast, shaved roast beef, shaved ham
Vegetable suggestions: lettuce, onion, green bell pepper
All of the sandwich’s benefit from a slice of tomato, too!
