Grape Juice Vs. Wine for Heart Health
Both wine and grape juice share the same compounds that lower cholesterol, prevent hardening of the arteries, and fight heart disease...but grape juice does all these things without the calories (or the buzz, for that matter) of alcohol. So if you're a teetotaler, or there are times when wine wouldn't be appropriate, reach for the grape juice to get your daily dose of heart protection. In a recent study that measured the antioxidant power of over 1,000 foods and beverages, one brand of 100 percent grape juice made from Concord grapes had the highest antioxidant count of all beverages measured, says a registered dietitian at Hunter Public Relations in New York City.
