Fitness Tip
Mind Games for Fitness
Imagine that your sweat is fat dripping off of your body and you'll have a new appreciation for the stuff. If you're a little sore after strength training, think of it as proof that you are getting stronger and making real progress. When you clean out your pantry, picture each package of junk food you toss in the garbage as a pound of fat, too. Mind games like these can make sticking to your diet and exercise plan a lot easier.
Nutrition Tip
Low Glycemeic Index Foods
If you're having trouble getting those pounds off, you might be interested to note that a Danish study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reinforces the idea that a low-glycemic index (GI) diet can help. Made popular by diets such as South Beach, low-GI foods, which are high-fiber, complex-carb foods like vegetables, beans, nuts, lean meats and whole grain breads, slowly release energy into your bloodstream. This will, in turn, keep you satisfied longer. Study participants who ate high GI-foods gained more weight, especially in the stomach area, over six years. To go low-GI, choose whole foods like an apple with peanut butter, over anything starchy, sugary and/or refined.

Tidbit(s)
Smile!
Even if you're feeling crabby, force yourself to crack a smile. The act of smiling relaxes facial muscles and short-circuits a bad mood. Not only will you be less of a downer, but you might lower a substance in your body linked to heart disease and cancer.
Food Fixes
Cut some fat and calories on your next BLT sandwich by using turkey bacon instead of "regular" bacon.
If you find yourself with an abundance of garden parsley, rinse it well, snip the stems and freeze in a resealable plastic bag. When a recipe calls for parsley, simply snip off just the amount you need.
Tasty Tidbit...
Mix a little sugar substitute and cinnamon and dip apple wedges into the mixture for a sweet, healthy snack.
