Fitness Tip

Exercise for One Hour a Day
One hour of exercise a day can have a big impact on the scale. Break the time into a few mini workouts if you can't do the whole hour at once. Mix moderate-intensity cardio every day plus full-body strength training three times a week. The cardio zaps fat, while the strength training moves boost metabolism and improve your muscle-to-fat ratio. Use variety, too. Variety is one of the keys to success because it challenges muscles in different ways and staves off boredom. Get some bonus exercise by washing the car or even pacing while talking on the telephone. Use your imagination as there are lots of ways to get extra movement in your day!

Nutrition Tip

Sugar Hazard
Extra sugar may increase your chances of getting pancreatic cancer, according to a recent study. People who drank regular soda at least twice a day had a 90 percent greater risk of developing the disease. Those who added sugar to their food and drinks five times a day or more also had a higher risk. Pancreatic cancer is rare, yet the American Cancer Society estimates more than 16,000 died from the disease last year. Improve your odds by cutting out the equivalent of the sugar in one soda per day.

Potato chips were invented at Saratoga Springs, New York in 1853 when Commodore Vanderbilt complained to his steward that he made his French fries too thick, the steward who was a little put out, sliced some potatoes as thin as he could, placed them in boiling grease and served them. Needless to say the Commodore was delighted.

Tidbit(s)

Heartburn Help
According to Japanese research, healthy people who go to bed within three hours of eating are seven times more likely to have heartburn than those who dined four hours or more before going to bed.

Food Fixes

Avoid that saucy red stain on your plastic microwaveable containers: Cool your food first and then lightly coat the containers with cooking spray before putting the leftovers in. When you reheat your food, it won't stain.

Most stick margarines are about as bad for your heart as butter because they are loaded with partically hdrogenated vegetable oil. The trans fat in that oil raises your bad cholesterol, lowers your good cholesterol, and promotes heart disease.

Tasty Tidbit...
Add extra nutrition and flavor to your sandwich by replacing lettuce with a few vegetables from a package of broccoli slaw mix. This also adds a nice, crunchy texture.
