Fitness Tip

Job Stress and Your Weight
Work pressure may be giving you more than a headache -- it could be making you gain weight. In a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, the more job stress people report, the more likely they are to become overweight. Even worse, many pack on belly fat, a risk factor for heart disease. Researchers say, in addition to bringing on stress-related binges, work pressure can change the way your endocrine and nervous systems interact, making you gain that weight. If you're tense all day and noticing extra pounds, too, it may be time to polish up that resume.

Nutrition Tip

Opt for Organic
Buy a food bearing the green and white USDA organic label and know it was produced without conventional fertilizers or pesticides, contains no genetically modified ingredients, and -- in the case of meat and dairy products -- is free from antiobiotics and growth hormones. It also means that any entity that has handled or processed the food before it reaches supermarket shelves (or restaurant plates) is certified organic, as well. See also: What is Organic?.

No Sweat Workouts
Attention cube-dwellers: The new Flow DVD ($29.95 from The Wave Corporation) offers seven five-minute videos with moves for your shoulders, core, chest, arms and legs that you can do while computer-bound. Videos can be programmed to pop up automatically throughout your workday at 15-minute, 30-minute, 1-hour or 2-hour intervals.

Food Fixes

For a guiltless but satisfying coffee treat, indulge in one of Starbucks' 35 calorie Iced Coffee Italian Roast Light Drinks. It's available at supermarkets, so you don't have to wait in coffee lines or use words like "venti".

Eat a pear before a meal to help curb hunger. Ditch the peeler, though; most of the fruit's beneficial fiber is in the skin.

Tasty Tidbit...
For a pleasing crunch to your potato salad, add some chopped apple to the mix.
