Featured ArticleHealth Benefits of Ginger In Eastern societies, ginger has always been known for its healing powers. Pythagorus was one of its greatest supporters in Ancient Greece. King Henry VIII of England used it to protect against the plague. Though we don't know for sure if ginger can actually protect you from the plague, we do know that it is beneficial in many other ways. |

Liquid Assets
If you're going to drink a beverage with calories (i.e., fruit juice, soda, sweetened coffee and tea, or alcohol), you need to consciously adjust your diet to accommodate those extra calories. Research shows that people typically make adjustments to eat fewer calories over the course of a day after eating a solid food like jelly beans, but not after drinking the same amount of calories in a glass of soda. And if you want to replace sweetened drinks with their calorie-free counterparts, rethink it. Some research suggests that people who drink no or low-calorie drinks might actually end up eating more. The best thirst quencher -- you guessed it -- water.

Quick Recipe
Oven Roasted Peanuts
Place raw peanuts, in-shell or shelled, one layer deep in a shallow baking pan. Roast in a 350 degree oven -- 15 to 20 minutes for shelled and 20 to 25 minutes for in-shell peanuts. (Remove from heat just short of doneness desired, as peanuts continue to cook as they cool.)
Tidbit(s)
Lavender: A Proven Anti-inflammatory
Suffer from heel blisters? Carefully apply enough lavender oil to fully cover the blister without popping it; this will help it deflate and dry out faster. Reapply every few hours for three to five days or until the blister heals completely. Lavender is a proven anti-inflammatory that can speed the healing of skin irritations. Bonus: The armoa is incredibly soothing and relaxing.
Food Fixes
Coffee was originally used for medicinal purposes, treating everything from heart disease to fevers and coughs. It wasn't until people started craving the caffeine-buzz side effect that coffee took on the hot beverage form we know and love today.
Foods that contain plant sterols (phytosterols) can help lower cholesterol.
Tasty Tidbit...
Spicy, sweet meatballs make a festive addition to holiday appetizers. For a fancy touch, serve them with pretty, frilled party picks and a little plum sauce. (HAPPY EASTER!)
