Sit-Ups Can Give You an Abdominal Pouch!
If you want a lean, flat belly, the absolute worst thing you can do is force yourself to do sit-ups and crunches. Reason: Although sit-ups and crunches strengthen the rectus abdominus muscle, they also lengthen the transverse abdominals (girdle) muscles, causing your lower abdominals to pouch. But that's not all. Crunches and sit-ups can push your head out of alignment and cause tension in your shoulders. They can also damage your spine. Try the Abdominal Reverse Curl Exercise or The Bridge Exercise instead.

Calcium: Need it or Not?
Several studies have found that people with higher calcium intakes weigh less. But, there are also studies that show no connection. Findings are similarly equivocal for blood pressure and calcium intake: Some show a benefit, others do not. However, a well-known fact among all health experts is that few Americans meet their calcium requirements solely from food, so we suggest a calcium-magnesium supplement. In addition, aim for two to three servings of low-fat, calcium-rich foods a day, filling in the gap with supplements. It's important to note that women taking osteoporosis drugs should still take calcium supplements because the effectiveness of these drugs depends on ample calcium intake.

Food Fixes
Instead of using "lite" or "diet" juices, so many of which contain an artificial sweetener called acesulfame potassium which is poorly tested to date, stretch your favorite fruit juice by mixing it with seltzer or ice water.
Juices with added calcium and vitamin D can help you reach your daily targets, but aren't good for men who could exceed 1,200 mg of calcium a day.
Tasty Tidbit...
Bored with water? Try sparkling water, iced unsweetened green or herbal tea (add fresh lemon, lime or berry juice for more flavor) instead of diet sodas. In addition, treat yourself to a cup or two of black coffee or tea per day.
