Ball Sitting
Ball sitting can improve posture and strengthen your core. Plus, the soft surface may actually be better for your spine than hard chairs -- but talk to your doctor before trying it if you are pregnant or have back problems. If you want to use a stability ball in place of an office chair, be sure to choose one that puts your hips level with or just slightly higher than your knees (26 inches), will be a good fit for most. Nutrition Tip

Bone Up, Fall Less
Against this backdrop, findings from the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) made headlines when supplements of calcium plus Vitamin D failed to protect postmenopausal women against fractures. However, women over 60 did benefit, but only if the bone supplements of were taken faithfully. In another study, researchers monitored 445 people age 65 years or older who took supplements of calcium (500 milligrams) and vitamin D (700 IU). Those who took the supplements were 46 percent to 65 percent less likely to fall than those getting placebo, with less active women benefiting the most, probably because they had the most to gain.

Quick Recipe

Easy Potato Salad
For an easy potato salad, mix one-quarter cup each mayonnaise and balsamic dressing, toss with one pound warm quartered, cooked potatoes and sliced celery. Top with 2 tablespoons bacon bits.

Tidbit(s)

Vanilla
Vanilla imparts a warm, rounded flavor of its own and serves as a backdrop for other spices. Its quality is crucial in low-fat desserts, because without a lot of fat the other flavors stand out more. Avoid imitation extracts; they simply taste bad. Buy vanilla extract that is labeled "pure." Or better yet, make your own: Slit 4 whole vanilla beans lengthwise, place in a jar, cover with vodka or brandy, and let steep for at least 2 weeks.

Food Fixes

You can stock up on butter when it's on sale and freeze it. Keep it in its original package and freeze it in a resealable bag for up to four months.

If you don't care for pizza with tomato sauce, try this instead: Carmelize an onion in olive oil and a bit of butter. Then sprinkle a flatbread or prebaked pizza crust with olive oil and freshly chopped herbs. Layer on the onions, your favorite vegetables and bake until the cheese is bubbly.

Tasty Tidbit...
Toast Tip: Try one tablespoon of all-fruit jam instead of 1/2-tablespoon of butter. Tastier and no fat!
