Eggs for Weightloss?
Having eggs for breakfast may help you eat fewer calories throughout the day, according to a study in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition. Thirty overweight people were put on two different breakfasts: One with two scrambled eggs with two slices of toast, and the other a bagel with 2-tablespoons of cream cheese and 3-ounces of low-fat yogurt. Both breakfasts had the same number of calories. When the participants had eggs, they felt fuller longer and ate 164 fewer calories for lunch. And in the next 36 hours, they ate 400 fewer calories than they did when they breakfasted on bagels. A caveat: One egg has 213 milligrams of cholesterol, so you will want to alternate them with lower-cholesterol breakfasts like whole-grain cereal with fruit. Camel Milk Ice Cream?
Al Ain dairy in the United Arab Emirates has launched the world's first camel milk ice cream, touting it as a healthier alternative to the cow milk version. Available in chocolate, caramel, and strawberry, the ice cream is only 2.5 percent fat (standard ice cream is 6 to 9 percent), has more vitamin C, and doesn't bother people who are lactose intolerant. (Camel milk is not limited to the ice cream market, by the way -- it's also in chocolate and in cheese called, appropriately, camelbert.) The new ice cream is only available in the UAE so far, but the dairy plans to expand if the ice cream sells well at home.
Food Fixes
Trim excess fat from meats when grilling to avoid flare-ups.
Bruising soft herbs like basil, mint and cilantro before putting them in a food processor or blender will release flavorful oils and create a better, richer tasting sauce.
Jack up the nutrients in your meatloaf or burgers by adding a grated carrot or two.
