Coffee Perk
A new study from the National Institutes of Health shows that people at high risk of liver disease who drink more than two cups of caffeinated coffee or tea a day can halve their risk, compared with those who drink less than one cup per day. Researchers of the study, which was published recently in the journal Gastroenterology, point out that the combination of caffeine and antioxidants could explain the added protection.

See the Heat
A new disposable coffee cup lid warns you when your drink is super hot. The lid, just launched in Australia, morphs from coffee-bean brown to bright red when it's snapped atop a hot beverage, then fades back to brown as the drink cools. Smart Lid System's glow tops should be available this year in the U.S. market, where 50 billion to-go drinks are sold each year. Read more at their Web site: SmartLidSystem.com

Food Fixes

When grilling meat, brush on thick or sweet sauces during the last 10 to 15 minutes of cooking, basting and turning every few minutes to prevent burning. (And don't forget to Remove Carcinogens When Grilling Meat.)

Slicing mushrooms quickly and evenly can be tricky. Place button mushrooms in your egg slicer for quick even slices.

Stirring made simple: Stir or Whisk by the numbers -- you will easily cover all of the areas of the pan if you stir or whisk in a figure 8 motion.
