Choosing Which Oil to Use  With so many oils on the market today, which is the best for you?

Fitness Tip

Wash Your Hands
It's not sneezing or breathing that transmits most cold germs -- it's hand-to-hand or hand-to-face contact. Washing your hands regularly sends cells that may have been in contact with germs down the drain. Soap also ruins the cell walls of remaining bacteria so they can't multiply. Lathering up, using warm to hot water, and being vigilent about your fingernails is key. Be sure to completely dry your hands. See also: Clobber the Common Cold with Food.

Nutrition Tip

Break for Tea

If you usually break for coffee, switch to green or black tea, if possible. Its antioxidants can help ward off wrinkle-causing free radicals plus green tea may also help prevent cancer and aid in weight loss efforts. A study of Internal Medicine found that women who drank two or more cups of tea a day had a 48 percent lower risk of ovarian cancer than those who did not drink it. Green Tea has also been discovered to increase metabolism and fight fat.

Your Good-Health Check List
Whether you are cutting calories, fat, carbohydrates or are just concerned about healthy weight control, look for the following ingredients in the foods you eat:

  • Fiber. It helps you feel fuller, longer -- and helps keep you regular.
  • Protein. Sufficient protein is vital for maintaining muscles and bone mass, especially as we age. Note however, too much is detrimental to your health so keep the word "sufficient" in mind and don't over do!
  • Vitamins and minerals. Be sure you're getting everything you need to feel your best every day.

Food Fixes

Measure out handfuls or 1-ounce portions of your favorite nuts or seeds and pack them in individual plastic bags to maintain portion control.

Freezing frozen desserts with alcohol can be tricky. Alcohol freezes at a much lower temperature than other liquids. A frozen dessert with too much alcohol won't freeze properly.

Keep your bread warm: Line your bread basket with aluminum foil before you cover it with a napkin. This will keep your breads warm longer.
