Fitness Tip

Just Eight
Eight, eight-ounce glasses of water or other hydrating beverages a day will carry away waste and toxins from your body. It will also help keep you cool during exercise and replace the fluids lost during your workout. Hydration also fights fatigue! Post or pre-workout, or every day living -- especially helpful during the stressful holiday season. See also:  Why Water?

Nutrition Tip

Pretzels
Pretzels are fat and cholesterol free, which makes them OK as a snack option, but don't tell yourself it's health food -- pretzels still deliver empty calories that add up fast if you eat too many. Don't be lulled into thinking that fat-free foods give you a free pass to eat with abandon! Yes, pretzels are a better choice than fried, greasy potato chips, but you're still getting empty calories. Pretzels are also calorie-dense food -- if portions are too big, you'll be piling on calories that translate into added pounds.

Quick Recipe

Garlic-Parmesan Rolls
Preheat oven to 425. Unroll one (13.8 ounce) can refrigerated pizza crust dough on a lightly floured surface; pat into a 15 x 10-inch rectangle. Combine two tablespoons melted butter, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and two minced garlic cloves, brush evenly over dough. Sprinkle evenly with 1/2 cup thinly sliced fresh basil and 1/2 cup grated fresh Parmesan cheese. Starting at long edge, roll up jelly roll fashion. Cut into 12 (1-inch) slices. Place slices, 2-inches apart, on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 425-degrees for 12 minutes or until golden.

To Friends
Plans with friends offer more than good times -- they can be lifesavers as well. A recent study supports the theory that a large network of friends helps extend people's life spans. In the study, friendships appeared to increase people's longevity even more than family relationships did. Round up your buddies this weekend for a movie, a meal, or a chat over coffee or iced tea.

Food Fixes

Try spraying beaters with nonstick cooking spray before mixing cookie batter to prevent clumping.

Use your electric knife to easily cut rolled and chilled cookie dough. You'll get perfectly even cookies every time.

Icings won't be grainy if a pinch of salt is added to the sugar when mixing.
