Fitness Tip

Rake's progress
Want to see fitness grow -- and stress go? Plant yourself in the garden. A half-hour or more of continuous digging, planting, weeding, pruning, raking and mowing provides an excellent overall workout, raising your heartbeat and burning calories.

Nutrition Tip

Picking the Best Canned Soup
Keep your eye on the total fat -- it should be no more than 3 grams. Some canned cream soups pack a whopping 25 grams. Others pour almost an entire day's worth of sodium in one can; if a can has more than 500mg of sodium, put it back. Try to choose soups that don't skimp on vitamin A (with its cancer-fighting phytochemicals); look for at least 30 percent of the Daily Value for vitamin A. Also try to find at least 3g of fiber. Broth -- and vegetable -- based choices are generally best bets.

Tidbit(s)

Campbell's Red and White Label Condensed Soup
This soup is brimming with salt. Half a can averages about half of a person's recommended daily allowance. Instead, try the Campbell's Healthy Request, which contains less than half as much sodium.

Food Facts

Before freezing home made soup, refrigerate it until the fat rises to the surface. Skim off the fat and discard any bones. Then freeze the soup in serving-size portions for easy meals anytime.

For extra bulk and nutrition, add a cup of shredded zucchini to your chili. Your family will never know you're supplying them with extra vitamins!

Cottage cheese will keep fresh longer if it's refrigerated upside down in its original carton.
