Fitness Tip

Boost "good" cholesterol.
Here's one of the best arguments for daily aerobic exercise. Medical trials suggest that a daily dose of walking, biking, jogging, or swimming helps reduce the risk of heart disease, especially if that increased activity helps you lose weight. Research shows such exercise is the best way to raise HDLs, the "good" cholesterol that helps carry harmful fats out of your system.

Nutrition Tip

Shopping for Snacks
Check the Nutrition Facts panel and look for these numbers: Less than 200 calories, and no more than 3g of total fat, 1g of saturated fat, 400mg sodium per serving. Bonus challenge: Choose snacks with no hydrogenated oils in the ingredient list. Don't expect to find much protein, vitamins or minerals in the snack aisle -- most of these foods don't offer a much nutrient bang for your bite. Above all, stick to the recommended serving size to keep from going overboard on calories.

Quick Recipe

Roasted Peppers
Place whole peppers on a baking sheet and broil as close to the heat source as possible until the skins are evenly blackened and blistered. Wrap hot peppers in paper towels or seal in paper bag to steam for 10 to 20 minutes. Peel and scrape skin from peppers, starting at stem end and working to bottom. Halve and remove seeds and membranes. (Alternatively, slice stems and bottom ends off of whole peppers, remove seeds and quarter before broiling; place quarters skin side up on baking sheet, flatten slightly, and broil and steam as above.)
