Fitness Tip

One Set of Reps or Three?
When time is of the essence, it is tempting to do just one set of each move, but while novice weight lifters might be able to see results with a single-set training program, experienced exercisers who did multiple sets gained significantly more strength than people who did just one. Always give yourself at least three minutes to recover between sets. (This is a good time to get in a little cardio kick!) Less recovery time can make it difficult for you to work hard and thus achieve the best outcome. Three sets is the magic number for best results.

Nutrition Tip

Savory Scones
The scone, or Scottish quick bread, is said to have taken its name from the Stone of Destiny, the place where Scottish kings were once crowned. The original triangular-shaped scone was griddle-baked and made of oats. Today's versions are more often flour-based and baked in the oven. Scones come in a variety of shapes, can be either savory or sweet and are delicious when served for breakfast with a cup of tea or coffee. Generally considered a quick bread, scones offer just enough sugar to satisfy the sweet tooth without being a hindrance to a healthy diet. A lighter choice than most brownies and cookies, scones are an ideal way to end breakfast or brunch and make a fine accompaniment to cups of tea.

Quick Recipe

Just Layer It
Prepare one package vanilla fat-free, sugar-free reduced-calorie pudding and pie filling and spoon into four dessert dishes. Add a few spoonfuls sliced banana (one banana for four). Top with 2-tablespoons thawed light or fat-free whipped topping and coarsely chopped Snackwell's Sugar-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Variation: Use one package prepared strawberry flavor sugar-free low-calorie gelatin, partially thawed frozen raspberries, whipped topping and chopped Snackwell's Sugar-Free Chocolate Sandwich Cookies.

Tidbit(s)

Soda Pop
Reaching for some soda? Consider this: The average 12-ounce can contains 12 teaspoons of sugar, not to mention artificial colorings and no nutritional value. Even if you opt for sugar free, consider this: Water contains no sugar either, nor does it contain any coloring or artificial flavoring.

Food Fixes

In place of flour, use cornstarch to thicken sauces and gravies.

When hard boiling eggs, boil the water and slowly put the eggs into the water so they dont crack or break open, let the water come to a harsh boil and then put the cover onto the pot. Take the pot off the heat and let the eggs sit in the water for 20-30 minutes and the eggs should be hard-boiled!

To dry your own herbs, arrange fresh herbs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and dry for five to seven hours in an oven set as low as possible. Store in the freezer in tightly capped jars.
