Fitness Tip

Find the right activity.
Answers to three questions will tell you if your exercise program is right for you. Try different activities, and ask yourself : Do I look forward to this? Do I enjoy doing it? Do I feel good afterward? If you answer yes to all three, it's an activity you'll probably keep doing. Remember, no exercise program will work for long if you have to force yourself to do it.

Nutrition Tip

Healthy Requests
The healthiest picks at a diner: Grilled chicken sandwich; broiled fish; white meat turkey dinner, gravy on the side; chili; peel 'n' eat shrimp; broth; egg-white omelet; baked potato; buckwheat pancakes. Focus on salads, soups and lean meats -- and beware the fats and oversized portions. Make healthy requests -- sauce or salad dressing on the side, no cheese, steamed vegetables, a butterless baked potato instead of fries. Use low or no-fat condiments to add flavor -- ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce, lemon, vinegar, light salad dressing.

Interview Yourself
When the vending machine or other tempting delights come calling, ask yourself if you are truly hungry or simply eating out of habit. If you are really hungry, address that issue with a nutritious option. If you are stressed, bored or angry, however, find a way to deal with those emotions without involving food.

Food Fixes

To cook hamburgers in a hurry, poke a hole in the center when shaping. The centers will cook more quickly and when the hamburgers are done, the holes are gone.

To remove paint from hands, use lard.

Try freezing half and half or other cream in an ice cube tray and then store the cubes in a Ziploc bag in the freezer. Then when you make something like a soup or sauce, you can just take out a cube or two.
