Fitness Tip

Carry that weight?
How much weight should you be lifting? Here's a good rule of thumb. When you can perform 12 to 15 reps using excellent form, it's time to increase the weight used by 5 percent. In weight training, always use weights you can handle. Remember, we are training our bodies not our egos.

Nutrition Tip

Chicken Fat
Dark meat chicken, or any chicken eaten with the skin, can have just as much artery-clogging saturated fat as red meat. For the healthiest poultry meal, choose white meat and remove the skin before eating. For the best taste, though, cook the bird with the skin intact -- this will help retain the moisture in the meat, and won't affect the fat or calories. Visit our Healthy Chicken Recipes.

Quip or Quote of the Week

Quip:
Most large bread baking companies can bake 20,000 loaves an hour.

Quick Recipe

Cravin' Creamy Chicken Noodle Skillet Meal
Follow the directions on Green Giant's Cravin' Creamy Chicken Noodle Complete Skillet Meal (or another brand and flavor), except lower the heat to medium, use skim milk and stir often. Otherwise it may stick. The 32-ounce package will feed four.
Serving Suggestions: Serve with a packaged green salad and crusty bread. Add chunky applesauce for dessert.

Tidbit(s)

Start your day with an orange!
Oranges are packed with nutrients and fiber. Oranges are rich in potassium, folate, thiamin, vitamin B6, niacin, riboflavin and magnesium. Plus, they are low in sodium. They are portable and make a great on-the-go snack. You can also get calcium-fortified orange juice which helps build strong bones and prevent osteoporosis. See also: Nifty Naval Oranges.

Food Fixes

If the refrigerator is stale or full of bad odors, crumble up newspapers and fill the fridge. Let it run for a day or two. Remove the newspapers and discard them. You may need to repeat this procedure, but it does work very well. It also works on a stale cooler.

Store onions in a glass jar leaving the root intact and they should keep for weeks.

Potatoes will take food stains off your fingers. Just slice it and rub the raw potato on the stains and rinse with water.
