Fitness Tip

Exercise Equals Energy
Exercise speeds up metabolism and heart rate and increases energy. Making time for fitness is possibly the most difficult part of becoming fit. It's not your body that holds you back as much as your mind. "I don't have time to exercise." "I don't fee like it." "I'm not an athlete." "It's so boring." Do these statements sound familiar? They're the most common excuses people come up with to avoid exercise and fitness. The truth of the matter is, if you don't feel up to exercise, you probably need it the most. Exercise speeds up metabolism and heart rate and increases energy. It's easier to find time to exercise when you feel you have the energy to complete your daily tasks.

Much like the vicious cycle of no energy and lack of accomplishment, exercise creates energy which enables you to accomplish more. Try taking it one day at a time. The more you do, the more energy you will have. Eventually the exercise habit will replace the couch potato habit.

Nutrition Tip

High Protein Hazards
Those who struggle with their weight often turn to high-protein diets such as Atkins or Protein Power in an effort to slim down, but they are misguided, the Nutrition Committee of the American Heart Association warns in an advisory. Often these diets are high in fat and reduce the intake of nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables. As a result, many of these diets fail to provide essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other nutritional elements. What's more, they don't deliver on their promises to provide long-term weight loss. Not only that, the emphasis on animal sources of protein such as meat and eggs means dieters will be consuming large quantities of saturated fat and cholesterol. Studies have consistently shown that successful maintenance of weight loss is most likely when people follow a nutritionally sound diet and increase physical activity to burn more calories than they consume.

Food Fixes

To store garlic bulbs, make sure you keep them spread out (so the air can get to them) and keep them in a cool, dry, dark area. You can clean all of the garlic, place it in a glass jar, and cover with it olive oil. They will keep indefinitly.

If you buy a bunch of fresh herbs (parsley, mint, coriander etc.) and do not use it all, wash and chop the remainder and keep it a plastic container in the freezer -instant fresh herbs when you need them.

Use a cooking spray or oil the measuring cup next time you need to measure honey. This will eliminate the messy process of scraping the cup.

If a recipe calls for sifting, save time by putting all dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir with a whisk.
